Monkey Shoulder Scotch is a superb blended malt whisky from William Grant, made with single malts from three famous Speyside distilleries.
The result is a smooth, creamy, supple and very malty Scotch which works superbly well neat, over ice, or in whisky cocktails (where it really excels).
The name Monkey Shoulder is inspired by the nickname given to a temporary injury some malt men occasionally suffered many years ago as a result of repeatedly bending over whilst turning the malt.
On the Nose, it has an elegant, stylish aroma of marmalade, Crema Catalana, cocoa and malt, plenty of vanilla and a sprinkling of winter spice with a hint of aniseed.
In the mouth, it is Very malty, creamy with a hint of berry fruit with flavours Juicy toasted barley, cloves and butterscotch, Manuka honey, hot-buttered-toast and dried apricot. It has a Medium length, spicy oak and a hint of peppermint on the tail.
Monkey Shoulder great with mixers or just on its own. Smooth, sweet and very easy to drink.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose: An elegant, stylish nose of marmalade, Crema Catalana (apologies, but it really is there), cocoa and malt. Plenty of vanilla and a sprinkling of winter spice (nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon) alongside a mouth-watering hint of aniseed.
Palate: Very malty, creamy delivery with a suggestion of berry fruit. Juicy toasted barley, cloves and butterscotch. Manuka honey, hot-buttered-toast and dried apricot develop.
Finish: Medium length, spicy oak and a hint of peppermint on the tail.
Overall: According to the Monkey Shoulder website: “Some say it tastes just like riding bareback on the wild moors of Scotland with a flame haired maiden on Christmas morning. Others agree it tastes like 007 wearing a tuxedo wetsuit.” This is whisky to be enjoyed.

I ordered a brand of Monkey Shoulder Blended Scotch Whisky I like online, delivered to another state. I got the confirmation email saying all was OK. That was the last I heard from Crown Whiskey Store. Two weeks later, I’m wondering what’s going on. I sent them an email asking for status. No response. I sent another email. Again, no response. I called them – twice. They never answer their phone. I complained to Mr. Michael. Michael didn’t respond to that. It must have gotten their attention, though. Four days later I got the shipping notification. I wasn’t in any rush and I was glad to finally get my order, but a little CUSTOMERS service would have been much appreciated.

I like the store. The prices are not very high, they have their own delivery system, the service is good. I visited the tasting in the store – it’s free and held several times a week. The most interesting thing is that these events aren’t only for employees, but also for customers! It did take a few days to ship and missed the expected delivery date. Normally this wouldn’t be a big deal, although with this one I was expecting it for birthday. Also, the sign up process was a bit clunky-for some reason, my order (which I checked out as a guest) is still not showing up under my new account (which I created after the order to better track it)
